Frequently asked questions on NDIS Approved Fitness Equipment

Fitness equipment isn’t automatically covered under the NDIS. However, in certain circumstances, participants may be able to request funding for specific items if they are essential to their disability management and directly support their NDIS goals.

To apply, you’ll generally need a supporting letter or recommendation from a healthcare provider (such as a physiotherapist or occupational therapist) explaining why the equipment is essential for achieving your NDIS goals. This documentation should clarify how the equipment meets specific therapeutic or functional needs that aid in managing your disability.

Begin by contacting your NDIS planner or plan manager to request a “Change of Circumstances” review. This review allows you to request new supports, including fitness equipment, that align with your goals. Be prepared to provide supporting documents and discuss how the equipment will benefit you.

For certain higher-cost equipment, the NDIS may require an AT Request, which includes an assessment from an allied health professional. This assessment outlines the benefits of the equipment and verifies that it’s the most suitable option for you. AT Requests are typically needed for items costing over $5,000, but your NDIS contact can clarify specific requirements.

If the NDIS denies your request, you have the option to appeal. First, request an internal review with the NDIA to reconsider the decision. If this is unsuccessful, you can escalate the appeal to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) for further review. Your plan manager or support coordinator can assist with this process.

A medical recommendation is essential for the request but doesn’t guarantee approval. It helps demonstrate the necessity of the equipment and how it directly supports your NDIS goals. The final decision rests with the NDIA based on their guidelines and whether the equipment is listed as a necessary support.

For personalized assistance, reach out to your plan manager, support coordinator, or the NDIA directly at 1800 800 110. They can help you understand the documentation needed, assist with applications, and provide guidance on appeals if necessary.

Yes, we can return and refund if you are plan managed.

Yes, we offer assembly for a large range of our products. Read more about it here.

You will need to provide detailed information about the equipment, including its benefits and how it aligns with your NDIS plan goals. Supporting letters from therapists or healthcare providers may also be required.

The NDIS generally funds equipment that has a clear therapeutic or developmental benefit for the person.

We would recommend new equipment to ensure safety and compliance with current standards.
